Poliport to increase liquid cargo capacity by 60 percent
Poliport, which is an important center among liquid cargo terminals in Türkiye with its geographical location, storage capacity and service range, continues to grow with new investments. Poliport General Manager Selçuk Denizhan said, “We are planning to increase our liquid cargo capacity to 436 thousand cubic meters in the long term.”
Having a strategic location in the Kocaeli Region, Poliport serves as one of the closest and largest port complexes to Istanbul on the Anatolian side. Poliport, which is one of the few independent chemical storage companies in Türkiye that provides storage and handling services for products belonging entirely to third parties and does not buy or sell goods, is preparing to become a critical center in the handling and storage of qualified chemical products. The company, which provides services to global foreign customers and distributors that meet Türkiye’s chemical storage needs with 178 tanks and a capacity of 272 thousand 127 cubic meters, continues to increase its service quality and grow with additional investments.
‘PORTS PLAY A CENTRAL ROLE’
Poliport General Manager Selçuk Denizhan said that in the logistics of hazardous and chemical substances, which are an indispensable part of industrial processes, the safe transportation, storage and distribution of products is of critical importance for both environmental sustainability and public health. Emphasizing that the ports that manage the international trade of such substances play a central role in this complex supply chain, “Turkey’s ports have a significant capacity, especially in terms of handling hazardous and chemical substances. They are constantly being modernized to increase their competitiveness in this area.” Denizhan said.
Denizhan stated that different modes of transportation used in logistics processes, such as land, air, sea, rail and inland waterway transportation, are regulated by international conventions determined within each of them, and said that all of these modes of transportation are supported by various standards and regulations in order to increase transportation safety, minimize risks and ensure the sustainability of logistics processes. Expressing that the development of ports in Türkiye is not only limited to cargo volumes, but also has great importance in establishing the necessary standards for the safe handling of hazardous and chemical substances, Denizhan added, “Most of the coastal facilities in our country are located in the Marmara Region and a large part of the total cargo traffic is provided from this region. This situation makes the Marmara Region the center of logistics operations. The modernization of our ports ensures that operations in this region are carried out more efficiently and safely.”
IT WILL ACCELERATE GROWTH WITH NEW TANK INVESTMENT
Selçuk Denizhan, stating that Poliport continues to develop modern tanks and facilities for the storage and handling of both qualified chemicals and standard chemicals, said, “We have commissioned new tanks for the storage and processing of chemicals that require special expertise. These tanks are equipped with heating and fully automatic closed filling systems and are specially designed to maintain the stability of chemicals and ensure safety. We will increase our current capacity with the 5,850 cubic meter tank renewal investment to be completed in the last quarter of 2024. In the long term, we plan to increase our liquid cargo capacity to 436 thousand cubic meters. As Poliport, we aim to become a terminal base in the field of chemical storage and to reinforce our leadership in the sector with these investments.”
Reminding that Turkey ranked 38th in the 2023 Logistics Performance Index, Selçuk Denizhan emphasized that increasing the efficiency of ports, modernizing customs procedures and digitalizing logistics processes are of critical importance in order to take this ranking to higher levels.
INCREASES EFFICIENCY WITH CRM SYSTEM
Stating that, as Poliport, they focused on digital investments in line with this strategy and switched to the CRM system, Denizhan said, “The CRM system is an important investment in terms of preserving and improving corporate memory, effectively tracking customer feedback and making business processes efficient. In this way, we benefit from digital solutions to increase customer satisfaction, improve operational efficiency and support strategic decision-making processes.”

Stating that Poliport maintains its leading position in Türkiye’s chemical storage field and draws attention as a terminal that provides services at international standards, Selçuk Denizhan concluded his words as follows: “With our new investments and modernization works, we keep the security at the highest level in the storage and handling of hazardous and chemical substances, We aim to raise Türkiye’s logistics performance even higher. Poliport’s vision is to serve as an epicenter in the field of chemical storage by reinforcing its leadership in the sector and to ensure that logistics processes are carried out safely and efficiently for a sustainable future.”
