Germany's environmental policy is reshaping logistics routes

2024-04-02

The relocation of factories in Western Europe, especially in Germany, that cause high carbon emissions, to Eastern Europe also changes the main routes in logistics. Batu Logistics General Manager Efe Göktuna stated that existing logistics routes in Europe will start to take shape mainly through Eastern Europe in the coming period. Göktuna said, “As a brand that carries out intensive partial transportation on the Germany-Turkiye line, we have begun to further strengthen our Eastern Europe route.”

In Europe, where new steps are being taken on the environment every day, heavy industry production facilities in developed countries, especially Germany, are being moved to countries with more flexible emission rules. Germany’s decision to bring forward the transition to zero emissions by 5 years to 2045 brought about strict regulations. Shifting industrial facilities to Eastern Europe also causes main logistics routes to be redefined and planned.
Batu Logistics General Manager Efe Göktuna pointed out that the existing logistics routes, concentrated in Germany and Western Europe, will begin to take shape mainly through Eastern Europe in the coming period.

Produces solutions with Speedy Van for fast and urgent demands
Emphasizing that the change in the main routes will require restructuring in logistics and re-planning in investments, Göktuna said, “As a brand that carries out intensive partial transportation on the Germany-Turkey line, we have started to further strengthen our Eastern Europe route. We expanded our infrastructure in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia. “We respond to demands with our Speedy Van service, which is the ideal solution especially for fast and urgent loads.” said.
Stating that they have regular partial shipments to Turkey from all Western European countries and Germany every week, Göktuna said, “Last year, as part of our corporate transformation, we made our forwarder services more efficient for our customers. Although the process of moving climate-unfriendly factories in Europe to eastern countries increases the risk of carbon leakage for the EU’s zero emission target, it means a serious logistics need for the east of the continent. Accordingly, we are updating our future projections.”

Focused on spare parts, chemical products and boxed textiles
Göktuna stated that in addition to land transportation, they also offer air, sea and intermodal solutions upon request, and emphasized that land express transportation solutions are in high demand in import transportation. Göktuna pointed out that they have strong experience in the transportation of automotive spare parts, chemical products and boxed textiles, as well as fast-moving consumer goods.
Efe Göktuna said, “It is no longer enough to just deliver the cargo on time. If you do not have strong network connections, you cannot run your vehicles as efficiently as you want. As a company, we produce solutions with a widespread network in Europe. This situation takes us out of the ‘intermediary’ position and turns us into ‘player forwarders’.”
