Medex Logistics will increase the share of multimodal transportation to 50 %
Medex Logistics, one of the strong players in the Turkic Republics logistics market, carries out sea and railway transportation to this region from Türkiye, Europe and the Far East as an alternative to land transportation. Stating that they increase the share of multimodal transportation services by 10-15 percent every year, Medex Logistics General Manager Cenk Karademir said that they aim to increase the share of multimodal transportation in transportation to 50 percent next year.
Which transport modes do you integrate in the field of multimodal transportation and which loads and to which regions do you deliver?
As Medex, we carry out shipments to the Turkic Republics from Türkiye, Europe and the Far East. In these transportations, we use all transportation modes as well as more than one transportation mode in the same transportation. The point we have reached is; “Multimodal” is our area of expertise in the geographies we serve.
We carry out these transportations, which we offer to our customers as an alternative to direct transportations, according to their preferences within the scope of preferred route, transit time and cost advantage. We also create a valuable alternative for cost-effective and fast shipping in case of regional and periodic vehicle supply problems.
In multimodal transportation, you need a strong branch and agency network, an experienced operation team and mastery of transfer areas; uninterrupted service is essential and valuable. In this context, we carry out transportation using all combinations of land + road, road + sea, sea + road, railway + road and road + railway for the cargoes departing from Europe and Türkiye and arriving in the Turkic Republics. Transfer points vary depending on the route, but are Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran.
In addition to our railway and road transport from the Far East, we also provide multimodal transport with road+road, sea+road. Our transfer points for these loads are China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Although we carry all kinds of products, mainly; We provide services to the construction and industrial products, textile, fast-moving consumer goods and livestock sectors.
GROWTH IS SHIFTING IN FAVOR OF MULTIMODAL
What share do multimodal transportations take in your cargo volume or turnover?
Multimodal transportation has a share of 35-40 percent in our cargo volume and proportionally in our turnover this year. This shows that the increase is in the range of 10-15 percent. We think that multimodal transportation will increase next year due to the ongoing global recession and cost pressures. In parallel, we anticipate that the balance in our transportation will change positively in the name of multimodal and we are making our preparations accordingly.
What kind of advantages do you provide to your customers by using this system?
The biggest advantages of multimodal transportation compared to other transportation systems are that they reduce cost, delivery and carbon emissions. It provides fast shipment opportunity, especially in the periods where the number of vehicles is insufficient, especially for the geography we serve.
Multimodal solutions primarily create a cost advantage for our customers. If it simultaneously shortens the transit time, it is a perfect solution. However, this may not be possible on every route. While some routes may decrease costs and extend deadlines, sometimes the opposite may occur. Our duty is to create alternatives for our customers and inform them transparently. Our customers also have the luxury of making choices according to their priorities. Or our customers simply communicate their priorities and we determine the most suitable routes and modes of transportation. Our customers benefit from Medex’s wide range of transportation options.
What are your growth plans in the field of multimodal transportation?
We provide transfers from all possible points within the geography we serve. Therefore, we are constantly working to improve existing services rather than new services. We plan to increase the multimodal share in our transportation to 50 percent next year.
‘WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TO OFFER THE BEST’
What would you like to say about the development of multimodal and environmentally friendly transportation systems in Türkiye?
Multiple and environmentally friendly transportation systems in Türkiye are both developing and increasing their volume, partly due to investments and partly due to cost pressures. In our country, which is surrounded by sea on three sides, the active use of sea transportation and the increase in the use of railways due to the long highway geography on the other side is an extremely positive and necessary situation. Multiple transportation systems have become unignorable for sectors and regions where logistics costs are a determining factor.
Medex Logistics has focused on customer needs since the first day and plans its development in this direction. While we provide continuous service to the largest players who do regular trade in the geographies we provide service, we continue our cooperation without compromising the same service quality for our customers with lower volumes. We make all our investment plans for its continuity and development. As it is today, we want to continue to be the first logistics partner that comes to mind for our customers and to whom they deliver their loads safely. For this, we believe in the importance of being able to offer all possible transportation modes to our customers and to have a variety of services. All our investments and development efforts for multimodal transportation are carried out in the light of this belief. We will continue to work to be and remain the best at every point we are in multimodal transportation, which we are experts in.
